Over 60s Class
Functional Fitness for the Over 60s
I am passionate about keeping people moving, and by people, I mean everyone.

So I have created an Over 60s functional fitness class designed to keep you active and able to continue with the activities that you love. It might be that you're already quite active but you want to stay fit and strong; or it could be that you are keen to become more active. You might have grandchildren you want to keep picking up, or an allotment that needs tending or shopping bags that need carrying. You may have had a knee replacement and want to build your strength and stamina up to get back on the golf course. You might have played rugby your whole life and miss the team interactions and exercise. This class will help with all of that!

There is a wealth of research into the importance of strength training to help maintain your bone density and help reduce the risk of falls. Regular physical activity can also reduce your risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, falls, stroke, dementia, and it can also boost your self-esteem, mood and reduce your stress levels. Unfortunately there is not a great offering for over 60s functional fitness exercise classes, and walking into a gym environment if you're not used to it can be really intimidating. And that is where this class can help.

They are suitable for everyone of all abilities as everything can be adapted to suit you and your needs. We have people who have had knee replacements, have osteoarthritis in hips and knees, have a history of heart attacks or even heart valve replacements.

Classes involve a warm up to prepare your body for movement, followed by a bit of strength training which often involves improving your balance and functional activities and sometimes some Pilates, and it finishes with a bit of a workout which always includes rest periods. There is no pressure to move quickly or lift heavy, it is all designed to go at your pace to suit your needs.

The goal of these classes is to make exercise accessible for the slightly older age group, with lots of friendly faces and some exercise at a level you are happy with, to help you live your life.
